Book Tasting

My co-worker and I received awesome feedback from our students about their experience reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. So we wanted to let students browse other relevant, engaging, and popular young adult books from the last couple years.

I did this in the form of a book tasting: students got menus, sampled a variety of books, took a few notes about some of the texts, and I even gave them a mint. It was a hit!

Next time, I think I would organize by genres, but I didn’t have the time for that this round. Students had about 10 minutes at each table, and I required them to select one text from each table to read a few pages from and jot some notes. The purpose was just to be exposed to books they may want to read for fun. We’ll probably do this again for book clubs, and then they will actually choose one. Checking one out from this book tasting was optional, although several students did!
